NASCAR at Watkins Glen picks, odds: Kyle Busch going for weekend sweep

Who Chooses the checkered flag as the Monster Energy Cup Series heads to Watkins Glen?

Here are our picks for this season’s road race.

Winner: Kyle Busch
After shooting his first checkered flag of the season a week at Pocono, rowdy is out for blood. After winning his first Xfinity Series race at The Glen on Saturday, Busch will start in the pole on Sunday because he chases his third career win in the track. From our point of view, so long as Busch does not wreck or see his engine fail, he should at least finish in the top five.

Contenders: Joey Logano, Martin Truex Jr..
We are simply not ready to give up on the 2016 championship runner-up, especially after his second-place finish in the NASCAR Xfinity Series race. Logano marched out his entire Cup team on Saturday and they didn’t disappoint. His team knows it’s win or go home, so anticipate the 2015 Watkins Glen winner to take his shot at Victory Lane on Sunday. As for Truex Jr., well his r??sum?? speaks for itself. The points leader possesses eight top-fives, 14 period wins, three race wins and also a 29 playoff points that are ridiculous. Truex Jr. directed the most complete laps in Sonoma in June before suffering engine failure with only 25 to go. Best think he hasn’t forgotten about that…

Wild Card: AJ Allmendinger
We’re not so high on the road course expert back in Sonoma, and for good reason. Despite almost winning a stage Allmendinger finished 35th. This time around we think that it’s going to differ. Despite a fair run in practice, Allmendinger’s results at Watkins Glen speak for themselves. Besides a triumph in 2014, he has a normal finish within the top 10 there. Don’t be shocked if Allmendinger plays spoiler to a motorist on the playoff bubble Sunday.
